Upon entering, the audience discovers a special place, inhabited by a lonely girl. Her world is private but we can peek in on it. She invites a lost bird into her world. Somehow, though the girl begins to love the bird, the bird cannot survive in the girl’s ramshackle construction and the girl is faced with a decision between her own need for companionship and the bird’s need for survival. At its core, SparrowSong is a simple story about a girl, in a magically-realistic world of her own invention, hoping for friendship and struggling to connect with another lost being. Part art exhibit, part performance, SparrowSong, however, is more than a story or a play. It is an experiment.
