The Fun is Just Getting Started in Tempe When the Sun Goes Down!

The Tempe Tourism Office promotes summer Broadway shows, flashlight tours, live music performances and Prowl & Play at the Phoenix Zoo

Tempe, Ariz. – For live music, Broadway shows, zoo adventures and more, nighttime is the perfect time to explore Tempe. Make the Tempe Tourism Office your first stop when looking for attractions and entertainment to keep you cool this summer.

When the sun goes down the fun is just beginning at the Phoenix Zoo. Prowl & Play allows guests to explore the zoo after dark and provides them with a unique and memorable experience that is fun for the whole family. Cool off at the Leapin’ Lagoon and Yakulla Caverns water play areas and participate in the squirt gun water wars! Kids can showcase their musical talents on one of the many drums at Music Mayhem, enjoy games and much more! Prowl & Play takes place from 6:00 – 9:30 p.m. on June 9, July 14 and August 11.

Friday nights in May and June, the Desert Botanical Garden is the perfect setting for music under the stars. Music in the Garden features food, wine, and a variety of entertaining musicians. Upcoming performances include The Shri Blues Band, Grupo Liberdade and The Sugar Thieves. Concerts are scheduled for May 18 and 25 and June 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29. Performances are held from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. in May and 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. in June. Experience the garden at night for a sensory adventure with a Garden Flashlight Tour. See, hear and feel the desert with its nighthawks, insects and night-blooming flowers Thursday and Saturday nights from May 26 to September 1, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. 

Enjoy a Broadway show at the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed ASU Gammage this summer. The three- time Tony award winning production of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES comes to town May-15-May 20. Enjoy some old time rock n’ roll from Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins when MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET hits the stage June 5-10. 

Get to know the amazing ocean world at Sea Life Arizona! Encounter a vast array of creatures including seahorses, sharks, rays, tropical fish and more. Sea Life is also home to Ziva, Arizona’s first Green Sea Turtle! There are more than 30 display tanks in 12 different habitat zones, making homes for more than 5,000 sea creatures. 

For a variety of shopping, dining and entertainment options, Tempe Marketplace is the perfect place to spend an evening. Come enjoy live music on the district stage every Friday and Saturday night from 7:00- 10:00 p.m. Genres include rock, reggae, folk and country and feature a variety of talented local bands and musicians. Head to the Barnes & Noble fountain for acoustic performances Friday and Saturday evenings from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
