Tempe, Arizona Disability Programs, Services and Facilities

The City of Tempe will reasonably modify its policies, practices and procedures in order to make them accessible to qualified persons with disabilities. For accommodations (such as an interpreter, alternative formats, etc.), or questions regarding Arizona disability accessibility, please call 480/350-2905. For other questions, please call the City of Tempe switchboard: 480/967-2001 TTY: 480/350-8400 or visit our website, www.tempe.gov.

Using and Obtaining a Disabled Parking Placard
All disabled parking permits are valid for parking in designated accessible parking spaces, no matter the state or country of origin. Make sure the state or province on the placard matches the license plate of the vehicle or you may be subject to a fine. Your placard allows you to park in the Arizona disability accessible spaces and most metered parking spaces without having to pay. All metered public parking is free in the Mill Avenue District to vehicles displaying disability plates or a placard. This is not the case on ASU campus where paid decals may be needed. Some private lots may not offer discounts to permit holders.

If you are from out of state or from another country and need a placard, you can obtain a temporary travel placard online at www.azdot.gov/mvd/formsandpub/mvd.asp. Type in form number 96-0104. You can also call 602/255-0072 or TTY: 602/712-3222. You will need to visit an MVD office with the completed application and medical certification to obtain the placard.

Most other states and Canadian provinces honor Arizona disability plates and placards, However, it is a good idea to contact the appropriate motor vehicle authorities when traveling outside Arizona.
