It’s been about a week since we said goodbye to 2012 and said hello to 2013. That means it’s time to think about New Year’s resolutions.

The Tempe Tourism Office team made a few resolutions for 2013 and we thought they might give you an idea or two of your own. Word on the street is that writing down resolutions makes us more apt to stick to them. Let’s hope that’s true because many of these involve a commitment to exploring our favorite city, Tempe. Learning more about where we live and work is not only important for our jobs, but it is also a really great way to start off the New Year.

We’ll circle back to these soon in another blog post to let you know how we’re doing. Wish us luck!

As for me, I want to ride my bike more. I just got a super cute pink cruiser bike for my birthday in November and I’ve only ridden it twice. My goal is to ride it at least twice a month and explore some of the bike paths in Tempe. My favorite route is the Cross Cut Canal Path at Mill Avenue and Curry Road. So far, I’ve only ridden on this path on a rental bike so I can’t wait to try it with a bike that’s all mine.

Sofia, our membership and services manager, would like to walk or hike the Tempe trails at least twice a week. Since our office is located along Mill Avenue, there are lots of great paths to choose from that are just steps away from our front door, like “A” Mountain and the paths around Tempe Town Lake. This sounds like a perfect lunch hour or after work activity to me.

Linda, our director of sales, is looking forward to meditating 10-15 minutes every day. During the work week, she plans to take advantage of our office location and walk to Tempe Town Lake, the lawn at Hayden Flour Mill or Hayden Square. This would be a great way to get a little dose of our famous Arizona sunshine and take a quiet break. Linda’s hoping that this goal becomes a habit by the end of this month.

Every Saturday, Patrick, our digital content coordinator, is going to run or hike through Papago Park. Our resident New Jersey native really appreciates a dose of desert scenery.

Amy, our digital marketing manager, is going to train for the Women’s Half Marathon that will take place on November 3, 2013. She’s going to train for this race later this spring by running around Tempe Town Lake and along the Tempe canal running paths.

And, finally, just about everyone in our office has developed quite a love of Starbucks. The awesome crew at the 5th and Mill location has memorized all of our favorite drinks and our first names. To make us feel a little better about this habit, we’ve all made a commitment to use reusable cups as much as possible this year. It’s an easy thing to do, and when it comes to our planet, every little bit helps.

What are your 2013 resolutions? We’d love to hear from you!
