Four Peaks Brewing Company is as synonymous with Arizona as cactus is to the desert. Four Peaks’s Kilt Lifter, Pumpkin Porter and Hop Knot are just a few of the popular beers that are ordered often at bars across Arizona. But Four Peaks offers much more than just beer. We’ve learned that several of their menu items are notably delicious, and pair very well with their beers.

We asked Mike Kruchko of Four Peaks Brewing Company to help us out in discovering the best pairings. Check out our video for suggestions on food and beer pairings, and take a look at a few of our personal favorites at their 8th Street restaurant below.

Carne Adovada & Hop Knot IPA
The Carne Adovada is a cherry wood smoked pork with a red chili sauce.  It has a great combination of spiciness and smokiness that pairs perfectly with a nice hoppy beer like Hop Knot American India Pale Ale.  The floral & citrus hoppy notes of the beer really play perfectly off the chili pepper and smokiness of the cherry wood.

Blackened Salmon BLT & Sunbru Kolsch Style Ale
Four Peaks uses fresh salmon that gets grilled with a nice Cajun seasoning, which then gets complimented by a pepper jack cheese, pesto mayo and a 12 grain bread with lettuce, tomato and red onion.  The perfect pairing is with Sunbru Kolsch Style Ale. The Sunbru is a clean, crisp dry German Ale with a low bitterness that pairs great with fish and poultry.  It allows to enjoy the flavors of the dish without overpowering your palette.

Kilt Lifter Fish ‘n’ Chips & Wheat Ale
If you like fish n chips…you’ll love the Alaskan Cod in a Kilt Lifter beer batter.  This dish pairs well with a variety of beers, but the White Ale pairs surprisingly well. A Belgian style witbier, it’s made with orange peel from locally grown oranges as well as Arizona-grown Sonoran white wheat. This beer has a relaxed drinkability that won’t overpower the dish while the coriander and orange notes play well with the light and flaky fish.

Popper Burger & Raj IPA
A staple in the burger world (or at least at Four Peaks Brewing Company), this grilled Angus patty topped with cream cheese, sautéed jalapenos and crisp onion straws is just asking to be served with  Raj IPA. Like Hop Knot IPA, the Raj pairs great with spicy food! The Raj has a slight caramel note along with a great bitterness that allows for the heat of the jalapeno to standout and the flavors of the beef to stay at the forefront.

Bonus: Pumpkin Porter
Known as Arizona’s most popular “seasonal beer,” this beer is available statewide from early September through the Thanksgiving holiday.  The dark rich porter brings the fall season right into your pint with noted of nutmeg, cinnamon and all spice.  Their chef uses these great flavors in fall specials to showcase rich sauces, great cuts of meat and even specialty desserts that all bring that fall feeling right to your table.
