Tempe 5Ks to Put a Spring in Your Step

Time to put your New Year’s resolution to get fit into action! There are lots of 5K and 10k walks and runs taking place in Tempe this spring that will help you get fit while also supporting some great organizations. Here’s a list of a few of my favorites in Tempe and Papago Park.

Luv2Run 5k Run/Walk – February 18, 2017 – Road Runner Sports Tempe
Come join the Run Your Race 5k Run/Walk and help support Team RWB, a veteran’s support group, on Saturday, February 18! 
Race includes a custom finisher medal, matching lapel pin and sticker, race bib, wristband, age group awards and water and snacks. Runners will receive a Road ID bib at check in. Check in starts at 8 a.m. in the parking lot at Road Runner Sports Tempe, located at Tempe Marketplace 43 S. McClintock Drive, Tempe, AZ 85281. The race is scheduled to start at 9 a.m.

FroYo Run – February 18, 2017 – Tempe Beach Park
This frozen yogurt themed run boasts frozen yogurt at the finish line, of course, and also fun little spoons as finisher medals! Plan to enjoy Zoyo Neighborhood Yogurt at the finish – yum! Each runner/walker will also get a fully loaded goody bag including mirrored shades and a dri-fit running hat! Choose from the 5k or 10k at this family friendly event and get ready to swirl your way to the finish line. Proceeds will benefit Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Check in starts at 6:45 a.m. The 10k starts at 7:45 a.m. and the 5 k starts at 9 a.m.

5k For Heroes – March 7, 2017 – Papago Ball Park
5K for HEROES is a 5K Run/Walk/Obstacle race with 100% of the proceeds going to Camp Hometown Heroes, an organization that supports the children of fallen service members. This “Obstacle” race will feature service members from each branch of the armed forces from the Phoenix area as the actual “obstacles.”  As participants run the 5k course they will be challenged to complete various training regimes designed by the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard! You may also run or walk the 5k without obstacles. This is a kid and dog friendly event so bring the whole household out to join in the fun. The race starts at 7 a.m. and the the course will begin and end at Papago Ball Park at the heart of the 5k for HEROES festival area.

Zoo Move & Groove 5K Run/Walk – March 11, 2017 – Phoenix Zoo
Join the Phoenix Zoo for a day of moving and grooving for the animals! Don your favorite animal attire and take part in the 5k walk/run, one mile leisure loop or kids dash on Saturday, March 11, at nearby Papago Park. The Zoo Move and Groove starts at 7 a.m. and includes all-day Zoo admission, a commemorative medal, T-shirt and post-walk refreshments. And don’t miss the Zoo Move and Groove Festival, starting immediately following the race. The fitness focused festival, held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., includes a Bounce Boot Camp, dance party, Zoo-robics, animal yoga, Zoo-mba, and more! This walk is stroller friendly, but no pets please. All proceeds benefit the Phoenix Zoo.

Voices for CASA Children’s Superhero 5K/1K Fun Run/Kids Dash – April 9, 2017 – North Soccer Field, Kiwanis Park
Don your cape for Voices for CASA Children’s 4th Annual Superhero 5K/1K Fun Run/Kids Dash. Your super-amazing participation will benefit nearly 13,000 local abused or neglected children in foster care. There will be fun for the whole family, costume contests, fun runs and prizes for race winners. Fly across the finish line and experience all of our SUPER-FUN activities. Strut your stuff at our Superhero Costume Contest for all ages.  And don’t miss the Mighty Mini Heroes Zone with games, team mascots, emergency responders, superhero bouncers, “bad guys” and more. Check in starts at 7 a.m. and the first race starts at 8:30 a.m.

MDA Muscle Walk – March 4, 2017 – Tempe Beach Park
Through MDA Muscle Walk, you can join forces with others to raise critical dollars that will make a real difference in the lives of people fighting life-threatening muscle disease in your community and across the nation. Funds raised through the Muscle Walk program build on decades of MDA research progress, helping push science to its limits in the search for treatments and cures. Registration begins at 8 am. Walk begins at 10 a.m.

Pot of Goals 5K – March 18, 2017 – Road Runner Sports (Tempe Marketplace – 43 S. McClintock Dr., Tempe, AZ 85281)
Come join RUN YOUR RACE for a family friendly 5k run/walk and help support Team RWB, a veteran’s support group! Their mission is to enrich the lives of veterans through physical and social activity. Check in starts at 7:00 am on Saturday, March 18th in the parking lot at Road Runner Sports Tempe.  The race is scheduled to start at 8:00 am, so please arrive early! Your finisher medal will be awarded after the run and water and snacks are also provided.

Pat’s Run – April 22, 2017 – ASU Sun Devil Stadium
Run or walk Pat’s Run on Saturday, April 22 to honor Pat’s legacy while raising important funds to support the programs created to pay tribute to his commitment to leadership and service. Pat’s Run features a 4.2 mile run/walk, a .42 mile Kids Run for children 12 and under and a Finish Line Expo. The 4.2 mile course winds through the streets of Tempe, symbolic of the #42 jersey that Pat wore while he was a Sun Devil, and finishes on the 42 yard line at ASU Sun Devil Stadium. Participants will receive a camo race shirt and the new collector series medal for all 4.2 Mile finishers. One  enjoy the post-race party with beer and music, new corral technology that validates corral assignments based on actual finish times. Proceeds from Pat’s Run directly support the Tillman Military Scholars program. Pat’s Run starts at 7:05 a.m. The Kids Run starts at 9:45 a.m. The Expo and Kids Corner will open at 6 a.m.
