I’m drinking a smoothie called “Berry Me Alive.” I didn’t realize how funny the name was until I said it out loud when I ordered it at 24 Carrots today.

I’m a sucker for cute names for beverages, but I’m also a sucker for places that take extra steps to do things the right way. One of Tempe’s newest restaurants, 24 Carrots, sources all of their ingredients locally, using farms from around the Phoenix area, including a few in Tempe. Their menu changes frequently. Each week they adjust their menu to take advantage of the freshest ingredients available.

This isn’t a brand new restaurant, but it is new to Tempe. It opened about a month ago on the corner of McClintock and Guadalupe, in the same plaza as Changing Hands Bookstore. Formerly located in Chandler, 24 Carrots is a vegan eatery that features smoothies, juices, salads, sandwiches and other specialties.

Their smoothies and juices don’t have any added sugar or other ingredients. They stick to the basics: fruit and juice. And, this is a very good thing.

They also make everything on site, except for their bread that is from a bakery in Tucson. This means that they make their sauces, veggie burgers, vegan cheese and more. You’re guaranteed to have an excellent meal made with the freshest of ingredients. You can read their philosophy about great food on their website. This is a place where you can feel good about what you eat.

One of their most popular menu items is the Smokey BLT Club made with vegan bacon, avocado, aioli, lettuce and tomato. Their hummus flavors change often, but all flavors are exceptional. I haven’t tried it yet, but I’m intrigued by their zucchini noodle salad. It has zucchini noodles (obviously!), seasonal veggies, a seed medley and your choice of either lemon tahini or balsamic dressing.

This restaurant is warm and inviting, but with a modern twist. The brightly colored walls are offset by the use of reclaimed wood. Their tables and chairs are mismatched in the most charming way. And, they have a relaxing corner with cushy furniture and a bookshelf. It would be the perfect place to unwind with a delicious juice or smoothie.

24 Carrots is located at 1701 E. Guadalupe Rd., Tempe. We’ll see you there!
