Enjoy Cult Classics at Pollack Tempe Cinemas

Like most people, I love movies. Everybody has a handful of films that they love and could watch over and over again. For whatever reason, you love them, regardless of what anyone else thinks about it. I have a few movies like that. They’re the ones where I could recite every line in the film and yet, I watch it like I don’t know what’s going to happen next. One of those movies for me is Batman, the 1989 film featuring Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson. I can remember the first time I saw the trailer for it too. I was seven when this movie debuted and I’m pretty sure that to this day, it’s still the only movie I’ve ever seen twice while it was still in the theater. Needless to say, you can imagine how excited I was when Pollack Tempe Cinemas had a one-night only showing of Batman for their Cult Classics film series.

Pollack Tempe Cinemas, located at 1825 E. Elliot Rd. in Tempe, is a locally owned-movie theater in south Tempe. As soon as you walk inside, you notice that it’s a bit of a quirky place. There are a lot of photographs on the walls, featuring scenes from classic films. The lobby has both vintage and new arcade games. One of the theater’s distinguishing features, at least to me, is the life-size mannequins of movie characters along the perimeter of one of the walls. But did you know that Pollack Tempe Cinemas is also home to Cult Classics?

Cult Classics is a monthly film series, which brings classic films and cult favorites back to the big screen for one night only. Every month, a different film is featured. Some of the films they’ve shown in the past include Predator, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Beetlejuice, Back to the Future and The Goonies. This weekend, they’ll be playing Edward Scissorhands.

Unlike most other movie theaters, Cult Classics is really fan interactive. They create a commemorative print and t-shirt for whichever movie is being shown, so when you buy your ticket(s), you can include one or both in your purchase if you want. They have raffles for collectibles related to the film before every movie too. Everyone that purchases a ticket automatically gets a free raffle ticket. Some die hard fans of the movie will dress up too.

At the beginning of this month, they showed Batman. Needless to say, I was all over it. I purchased the VIP Package, which got me a ticket, commemorative art print AND a commemorative t-shirt. It was pretty awesome to be watching one of my favorite movies ever back in a theater, over 20 years after it first came out.
