Fall is the best time in Tempe to get active! There are several fun and unique races in Tempe that come in every shape and size. From relaxed 5k walks to competitive marathon courses, there is something for every level of fitness in Tempe to get you motivated! Here is a list of runs, walks and triathlons in Tempe this fall:
Cruiserman Triathlon – September 28: Cruiserman is a unique twist on traditional triathlon…forget Aero helmets, carbon bikes and racing flats…think happy thoughts…floaties, cruisers and flip flops. Cruisermen & Cruiserwomen will swim (flotation devices — no boats allowed) , roll around town on a cruiser, and jog on an obstacle laden trail. As the sun begins to set, expect good times and beers lakeside! And there’s a duathlon option if you would prefer to stay out of the lake!
A Race for Maggie’s Place – October 6: Maggie’s Place is a community that provides houses of hospitality for expectant women who are alone or on the streets. This walk/run starts at the Arts Park at Tempe Town Lake and includes a 9K run, 10K run, 3 mile run/walk, and a kid’s dash. Also includes raffles, prizes for top 3 winners in each race, and fun activities for kids. 100% of the proceeds of these races benefit Maggie’s Place.
Das 22nd Frank Kush/Oktoberfest Foot Race – October 12: The 41st Annual Oktoberfest at Tempe Town Lake presents Das 22nd Frank Kush/Oktoberfest Foot Race with distances of 5 Mile, 5km and 1 Mile on a scenic course around Tempe Town Lake. The event will provide additional Oktoberfest “oomp-pah-pah” and further solidify the charitable work of the Frank Kush Youth Foundation and Tempe Sister Cities youth programs. As always, serious runners, walkers, families, kids, and kids in strollers are encouraged to participate. Join the Oktoberfest spirit and dare to run in your lederhosen and dirndls.
Soma Triathlon – October 20: Red Rock proudly announces the 10th year of the Soma Triathlon. Tempe Beach Park and Tempe Town Lake play host to the event, starting with a 1.2-mile swim in Tempe Town Lake, a 56-mile bike course and a 13.1-mile run. This course offers great views of the lake, ASU and the surrounding landscape of Tempe. This event is a great tune up for Ironman or just a great way to get out and compete in a half in a phenomenal setting.
Walk Now for Autism – October 27: Walk Now for Autism Speaks is a fun-filled, family friendly event and is a powerful source to fund vital research. Experience the power of thousands united by a single cause by joining Walk Now for Autism Speaks. Whether this is your first walk or the 10th, take the first step and register today. You will not only raise funds, but you will become a part of a fun and supportive family-focused community.
Women’s Running Arizona Half Marathon and 5k – November 3: Grab your girlfriends for an unforgettable weekend in Tempe and support the Susan G. Komen for the Cure at the same time. The scenic half marathon course will take you from Old Town Scottsdale to beautiful Tempe Town Lake for an extraordinary finish-line party. For those looking for something less intense, the 5K race starts and finishes in Tempe Beach Park.
Walk to Save Animals – November 9: This family-friendly annual event features a 2K and 5K walk, games, raffles, prizes, food, entertainment, adoptions and the best part – You Get to Bring Your Dog!!!
The Ugly Sweater Run – November 23: Rummage up the Ugliest Sweaters you can find and celebrate the holidays by participating in this fun and festive 5k. The start line will have huge inflatables, reindeer games, and awesome holiday music. Once you’re on the course, you’ll find holiday-themed stations every mile. After the race, take a much-deserved break from the shopping frenzy and celebrate your run with free Sam Adams Winter Lager and other holiday goodies. Participant should bring a new toy to donate under the huge Christmas Tree. All toys will be donated following the run to the local Toys For Tots chapter.
P.F. Chang’s Rock n’ Roll Arizona Marathon and 1/2 Marathon – January 19: Race participants boogie to the beat in this music filled event, attracting more than 25,000 runners from all over the world. The marathon course will start at Cityscape in downtown Phoenix and continue through to Scottsdale and Tempe. The half-marathon race begins and finishes in Tempe. More than just a race, this is a musical running event with bands and spirit teams along the course, an expo and a post-race headliner concert near the finish line. New to try is the Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona Mini Marathon – feel the excitement of 26.2 miles in an untimed 5.4 mile fun run. Experience the thrill of high-energy bands and cheer teams on the course and a rockin’ Finish Line Festival.
