Craft Breweries in Tempe

What’s the true taste of Arizona? In Tempe, it’s all about craft beer.

Tempe’s vast culinary scene extends from authentic global cuisine to upscale hotel dining. One trend that ties all of Tempe’s eateries together is the growing variety of excellent microbrews. With this lineup of craft breweries on tap, Tempe is producing some of the best beers in the Southwest.

Fate Brewing Company
201 E. Southern Ave., #111, Tempe, AZ 85282 | 480-590-2395

Fate Brewing Co. has been a local favorite in the metro area for years, and its newest location in Tempe is a beautiful yet uber-cool industrial space with lots of seating indoors and out. They serve many craveable menu items, from juicy burgers to flavorful Hawaiian Salmon. And, you’ll be hard-pressed to choose your favorite beer with choices like Fateful IPA, Halfway to Hefen and Barrel-Aged Honey Nut Barleywine.

Four Peaks Brewing Company
1340 E. 8th St., #104, Tempe, AZ 85281 | 480-303-9967

Four Peaks Brewing Company is the original destination for great Tempe craft beer. Their signature brews, including the Scottish style Kilt Lifter, 8th Street Pale Ale and Hop Knot IPA, can be found all over town, but they are best experienced at their location on 8th Street in Tempe.

Originally a creamery building dating back to the 19th century, this charming red brick structure seems custom-made for its brewing operations, large bar and sunny outdoor patio. You can tour this historic building and its brewing operations every Saturday. While beer is the main draw to this neighborhood hangout, food comes in at a close second. The Four Peaks beer bread sandwiches, perfectly seasoned fries, enchiladas and pizzas are some of the best. And, if you don’t get a chance to visit their original location while in Tempe, don’t worry. You can taste Four Peaks before leaving town at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in Terminal 4.

Goldwater Brewing Co. at The Crossings
9895 S. Priest Drive, Tempe, AZ 85284 | 480-300-6892

Since 2015, Goldwater Brewing Co. has been brewing and pouring pints in the Valley of the Sun. Today, the McClelland family operates a brewery that pumps out kegs for over 100 bars and restaurants, in addition to their two Tap Rooms (Scottsdale and east mesa) … until early 2023, that is. Last year, south Tempe welcomed the company’s third taproom. Standout brews include Hop Chowda, an New England/hazy IPA that features peach, mango and citrus, and Desert Rose, a Kölsch brewed with 100% organic prickly pear.

Hundred Mile Brewing Co.
690 N. Scottsdale Road, Tempe, AZ 85281 | 480-256-1623

Open since December 2022, Hundred Mile Brewing Co. is officially the new kid on the block. Here, owner Sue Rigler is combining her microbiology degree from ASU with her passion for craft beer and love of the Tempe community — a goal of hers since 2014. Today, this 10,000 square-foot (10-barrel) brewhouse, restaurant and craft-beer-and-cocktail bar marks a full-circle moment in Sue’s life. The space is bright and modern, the large patio is bike and dog friendly, and the menu features elevated pub fare, including a wide variety of small plates as well as burgers, salads and such entrees as coffee-rubbed short ribs. Hundred Mile brews include Coyote West Coast IPA, Pinetop Pils, Desert Neon Hazy IPA, Crowd Surfer Mexican Lager (with lime and salt) and The Natural Blonde Ale.
