South Tempe

Kiwanis Park south Tempe

When they’re in a new city, visitors always want to know where locals go. Many of the Tempe local favorites can be found in south Tempe, the area of town south of Baseline Road.

In south Tempe, you’ll find tree-lined streets with neighborhood eateries and local shops and lots of places to enjoy the outdoors such as parks and canal paths for running and biking.

One plaza in the neighborhood is quickly becoming the epicenter for both active lifestyles and creative cuisine. At the northeast corner of Rural and Warner Roads, you can linger over breakfast, lunch and dinner at Tempe Public Market Cafe, visit the new Cotton & Copper gastropub and cocktail bar, eat frozen treats at Bahama Buck’s and enjoy Ghost Ranch, a celebration of the food that represents Arizona and the Southwest. Next, shop for running and biking gear at local favorites Sole Sports and Landis Cyclery. Then, take an inspiring yoga class at One Tribe. Please note that Tempe Public Market Cafe will be closed for remodeling on May 6, opening again in June with refreshed seating options indoors and out and a few new menu items too.

There’s lots more to explore. Have a relaxing dinner with Sicilian-inspired dishes at Vincitorio’s, Pan-Asian cuisine at Flo’s or twists on American classics at Perfect Pear Bistro. TRES Tempe, located next to the Home2 Suites and Hilton Garden Inn near the 101 and Elliot, offers a delicious menu of dishes inspired by the Southwest and the Mediterranean. For delicious desserts, try Red Apron Bakeshop. And, for sandwiches, soups, homemade breads and treats, visit Great Harvest Bread Co.

Attend an author event, find your favorite book or a cool gift at Changing Hands Bookstore. Discover the latest Swedish designs for every room in your house at IKEA Home Furnishings.

South Tempe offers many ways to enjoy a weekend day. Take a stroll or bike ride along the Western Canal Path followed by breakfast treats at Pleaissant Croissant or The Crepe Bar. Enjoy the Kiwanis Wave Pool, take the kids to The Cloud at Kiwanis Park splash pad, or rent a Grid Bike from the kiosk at Kiwanis Park. Go bowling or play arcade games at Main Event or see a $3.50 movie at Pollack Tempe Cinemas. End your day with a cool treat from Zoyo Neighborhood Yogurt or Freddy’s Custard & Steakburgers.
