Microbrewery News

Downtown Tempe’s Pedal Haus Brewery expanded its brewing capacity and re-launched this fall

Pedal Haus Brewery, a certified hit from the first moment it brewed up last Sept. in Downtown Tempe, just unveiled a fresh look. The locally owned brewpub and beer garden concept on Mill Avenue closed for an expansive remodel this summer and reopened in late September 2016. The expanded restaurant, founded by acclaimed restaurateur Julian Wright of Fork and Dagger Inc., includes an increased brewing capacity, private dining room, enhanced patio area and beer garden and expanded beer selection.

The new brewery, with the help of its brewmaster, Derek “Doc” Osborne, produces beers such as the Belgian-style Witbier, Pilsner, IPA, and English ESB. The restaurant’s interior has been redesigned to create a darker, pub-like environment and the food menu features new dishes. Patrons will also be able to take brewery tours.

The 6,000 square-foot patio at Pedal Haus Brewery was updated to provide a lush, inviting beer garden oasis with an indoor/outdoor bar and yard games such as ping pong, cornhole, and ladderball.

The Shop Beer Co. now open
The owners of the former Cartel Brewery just opened at a new location with a new name. Now called The Shop Beer Co., this brewery features a taproom, a patio and space for beer production. The Shop Beer Co. doesn’t have a kitchen, but they do have space for food trucks serving lunch and dinner items daily.

Bike Share coming to Tempe
Tempe is working to bring the regional bicycle sharing program GR:D to the community in April 2017. GR:D bikes are currently available in Phoenix and Mesa. Tempe plans to launch the for-rent public bike program with 300 bikes and 31 stations.

Station locations are targeted to reach the highest bike ridership parts of the community, major destinations (Tempe Town Lake, Mill Avenue, Tempe Public Library, etc.), bikeways and ASU campus, as well as link to the regional light rail system and the streetcar route. Bike share programs support greater access to more sustainable transportation and reduce dependency on automobiles. Rental use is by the hour, month or year.

Kiwanis Park now offers boat and bicycle rentals
There are now new ways to explore Kiwanis Park with boat and bike rentals. In August, Boat Rentals of America opened a new location at Kiwanis Lake inside Kiwanis Park. Their new location offers kayaks, pedal boats and bikes for rent for one or two hour sessions.

This company also rents watercraft at Tempe Town Lake.
