Without question, breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. I have a list of places where I love to start my day, but I also like discovering a new spot for breakfast. I’ve found my new happy place at Scramble, a new addition to Tempe’s dining scene.

Scramble in Tempe is located at Lakeshore Drive and Baseline Road, near Majestic Phoenix Dine-in Cinemas. It is a bright and airy space, with orange, green and white décor. They also have a large, dog-friendly patio. I was surprised to find out that patrons order at the counter instead of table service. But, I actually like that option because I don’t always have time to linger over a leisurely breakfast. I have a hike, a yoga class or errands to run.
The menu is displayed on large boards right by the front door. Breakfast and lunch items are served all day. You can choose from omelettes or scrambles, eggs Benedict, burritos, a variety of pancakes, French toast, sandwiches, salads and wraps. They also have lots of gluten free and vegan options including the Soyrizo Burrito and the Portobello Wrap.
I went with the Veggie Omelette, with squash, sun dried tomatoes, red onion, bell pepper and Monterey jack cheese. It is served with hash browns and toast. I’m picky about my eggs – runny eggs can ruin my whole day. But, I am happy to report that their eggs were cooked perfectly and it may be the fluffiest omelet that I’ve ever had. The hash browns were crispy on the top with just the right amount of seasoning and the wheat toast tasted fresh-baked. I also ordered an iced tea and I was happy that I did. They serve one of my favorites, Infusion Tea, which is brewed right here in Tempe.

My daughter tried the buttermilk chocolate chip pancakes. You have a choice of buttermilk or multigrain batter and you can add berries, cinnamon apples, bananas with pecans and a few more items to take pancakes to a whole other level. Their fluffy hot cakes were served with maple syrup and a choice of side. My daughter went with applewood bacon but they also have turkey sausage, link sausage, black forest ham, yogurt, a berry parfait and even more choices for side dishes. Suffice it to say that nothing was left behind. It was too good to not finish it all.
My husband ordered the Phoenix Omelette with spicy chorizo, green chiles, cheddar and pico de gallo. And, we had to try the cinnamon roll. For research purposes of course. The generously sized cinnamon slice of goodness had a dollop of sweet, creamy frosting on top. It was super delicious. We’ll try the blueberry citrus muffin the next time. They also have Cereal Killer Smoothies (Fruity Pebble is something that I must check out), coffee and espresso, and berry smoothies. So, it’s established. I am going to become a regular so I can work my way through the menu!
Scramble is a member of Local First Arizona and they proudly use local ingredients whenever possible. They even display the names of the companies that they do business with. I thought that was a nice touch and shows their commitment to Phoenix area businesses. Their staff was extremely friendly and helpful and made us feel like we were a part of the family.
