Celebrate National Pi (Pie) Day in Tempe

Celebrate National Pi (Pie) Day at these favorite Tempe spots

Whether you’re celebrating the glorified National Pi Day (3.14) or looking to satisfy a craving or just something different to consume, we’ve got the best pies in Tempe! From savory hand pies to classic fruit pies to a play on words with pies, we’ve got them all. Here are some great places to get pie in Tempe on National Pi Day or any other day that ends in ‘y.’

Definition of pie: a baked dish of fruit, or meat and vegetables, typically with a top and base

Cotton & Copper: Traditional pie can be found at the ever-cool Cotton & Copper in South Tempe. Their innovative drink inspo compliments the exquisite taste of their pies. Chef Tamara Stanger has really crushed it in the pie game taking grandma’s classic dish and kicking it up a notch. Check out her latest creation: Brown Sugar Peanut Butter Cheesecake Pie with Dark Chocolate Whip. Mind = blown.
1006 E. Warner Rd., #113, Tempe, AZ 85284 | (480) 629-4270

Cornish Pasty Co: A name you don’t naturally think of when it comes to pie… but we’re looking at the definition. We love food that you can hold in your hand so why not call upon a great hand pie from Cornish Pasty Co. like the Lovely Bit of Salmon or the Greek (available with chicken or as a vegetarian dish). Y-U-M. So good you must separate “yum” to emphasize the flavor boasting from their handcrafted delights.
425 S. Mill Ave., #111, Tempe, AZ 85281 | (480) 629-4726

Squarz Bakery & Cafe: From sweet to savory, the super cute Squarz Bakery & Cafe serves scrumptious hand pies. We definitely recommend their hand-held Chicken Pot Pie. They also have breakfast “pies” (i.e. pastries and tarts) and delicious croissants (Oreo or Red Velvet are two fave flavors). As a busy person on the go, I love something that I can hold in my hand. To celebrate Pi Day, they’re giving $3.14 off the frozen mini pie packs and homemade pie slices are just $3.14 each!
975 E. Elliot Rd., #103, Tempe, AZ 85284 | (480) 788-8776

Sacred Pi: Pi Day shouldn’t be limited to just the savory and sweet treat that you find at the local bakery and eatery. Why not consider a pizza pie? Get it? Your local pizza joint wanted to join in on the fun and give you a fun place to eat for the fun themed holiday. And why not? Pi is part of their name. Check out this cozy spot in south Tempe and take your pick from their menu of pizza and calzone options. Our fave is the Capricciosa with red sauce, roasted artichoke, ham, pepperoncini, mushrooms and black olives. Cauliflower gluten free crust and vegan cheese are available.
6434 S. McClintock Dr., Tempe, AZ 85283 | (480) 897-9093

Rula Bula Irish Pub: You may know Rula Bula as the place to get a perfect pint of Guinness, but it shouldn’t be left off the list of places to get pie. Their pies are more of the comfort food variety, with a traditional Shepherd’s Pie with Angus beef, a Vegetarian Shepherd’s Pie, Chicken Pot Pie and Guinness and Beef Pie with a Puff Pastry Crust. We tried the Shepherd’s Pie and it was delicious – the perfect amount of meat and veggies topped with super creamy mashed potatoes. Take our advice and get it topped with cheddar cheese.

Tracy Dempsey Originals: Featuring a delectable selection of homemade treats, cookies, cakes, snacks, and of course a variety of hand pies, Chef Tracy Dempsey’s Tempe bakery is a local favorite. Guests will find an ever-evolving variety of fruit hand pies in addition to yummy treats ready for pick up at the counter. This sweet bakery also sells an amazing collection of wines and also offers custom cakes for any occasion.
