One World Many Voices: The Artistry of Canyon Records

Pueblo Grande Museum presents the  premiere of One World, Many Voices: The Artistry of Canyon Records, a comprehensive photographic, musical and historical exhibit of a unique record company.  Canyon Records  was founded in 1951 and is one of the oldest independent record labels that produces and distributes Native American music. Recent recipient of the first Governor’s Arts Awards for Small Business, Canyon Records is  one of the oldest cultural institutions in Arizona. One World, Many Voices features more than 40 images of Canyon Records artists, including R. Carlos Nakai, Tony Duncan, Radmilla Cody and others, photographed by Robert Doyle, president of the company. The exhibit showcases items from Canyon’s 65-year history, artist instruments, videos,and will premiere original music composed exclusively for this exhibit. As a special interactive experience, guests can  pose for pictures with the Canyon Records GRAMMY © Award. One World, Many Voices  is an immersive experience that provides a detailed look at Native American recording artists, the record company that supports them, and how Robert Doyle brings it all together. Admission to One World, Many Voices is included with regular Museum admission. 3D Astronomy Shows at the ASU Marston Exploration Theater

Gallery Exhibit: Trains of Tempe

Enjoy the new gallery exhibit at the Tempe History Museum now through October 8, 2017.  Explore the various railroad stations and bridges that existed in Tempe over the years with the Trains of Tempe GIS Story Map at the interactive computer station in the exhibit or in the comfort of your home. On view will be panels with photographs and an overview of the train history of Tempe, special topics focused on bridges, special trains, stations and train companies that operated in Tempe. A number of artifacts related to trains are on display, some from the museum collection, others from the Arizona Railway Museum in Chandler and from private collectors.

EDGE runs Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays in the TCA Lounge from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Bar opens at 5 pm with food served from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Please note that due to construction in the lobby, EDGE will resume August 18th.

Gabriel Rico is the first artist-in-residence for CALA Alliance’s GDL>PHX Residencias Artísticas program where artists from both cities are chosen to develop new work in Guadalajara, Mexico and Phoenix, Arizona. For his first museum exhibition in the United Sates, Rico will create an installation of new works using unique materials such as taxidermy animals, neon and found natural objects to addresses the relationship between nature, architecture and the future ruins of civilization.
