Spielraum 122: Art Meets Industry

ASU Art Museum Ceramics Research Center introduces their newest exhibit, Spielraum 122: Art Meets Industry, running October 21, 2017 through February 3, 2018. This project is part of the Windgate Contemporary Craft Initiative at ASU Art Museum and is supported by the Windgate Charitable Foundation. Additional support from the Eschenbach Porzellan Group and the artists. Exhibit info: In 2014, the Neue Porzellanfabrik Triptis GmbH invited five artists, including Helmut Frank, Patrick Loughran, Lyn Riccardo, Arnie Zimmerman and Lida Tarakhosky, to work in their porcelain factory in Triptis, Germany. These artists, with their diverse skillsets and backgrounds, began an ongoing collaboration that has probed porcelain’s cultural meanings and material possibilities.

Tempe History Exhibit: Jan Young: Photographing Tempe in the 1970s

Tempe newspaper photographer Jan Young spent the 1970s taking photographs for the Tempe Daily News. In 2001 she donated 7500 of her negatives to the permanent collection of the Tempe History Museum. These images are the basis for the exhibit Jan Young: Photographing Tempe in the 1970s at Tempe History Museum. Because she was photographing the daily events of Tempe for the local newspaper, her images capture the look, feel, and values of the community during that decade. Visitors to the exhibit will see many examples of Jan Young’s photographs from the 1970s, as well as displayed artifacts from her life and work.
