“Sending Their Ancestors Home” at S’edav Va’aki Museum

June 23, 2023 - May 31, 2024
S'edav Va'aki Museum

Event Summary

S’edav Va’aki Museum (formerly Pueblo Grande Museum) presents a new exhibit: “Sending Their Ancestors Home” explores the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), a federal legislation passed in 1990. Where do museums and cultural institutions stand 30 years later? What work is still left to do? How has this Museum grown and taken accountability for acts of injustice? Sending Their Ancestors Home, created in close consultation with the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community and the Gila River Indian Community, attempts to answer these questions.

The exhibit will be on display through May 2024.

S’edav Va’aki Museum is a 1,500-year-old archaeological site and museum.
